To create a new WordPress user profile is quite easy. As the Administrator of you site, you may want to add the ability for other people to access the Dashboard and perform various tasks. What each person is allowed to do depends on what Role they are assigned.

To add, manage or delete user profiles you will need to follow the directions below or watch the video above.

First you need to log in to your WordPress site. once you are at the Dashboard click on “Users” located on the left-hand side panel of the page. Then click “Add New.” You’ll now see a page that will allow you to type in the new username, first name, last name, email address, website (not needed), and a password.

Select the Role. Roles listed include subscriber, administrator, editor, author, and contributor.

Each Roll has a distinct function. The Administrator is the highest level of user and can do everything. The Administrator can change all the settings in the blog, as well as switch themes and activate and edit plugins. The Administrator also has the power to edit users and edit files, manage options, and import files. Everything.

An Editor is the second highest role. An Editor can moderate comments and manage categories. An Editor is also allowed to manage links, enter unfiltered html, edit published posts, edit other contributor’s posts, and edit pages. Editors are also able to upload files and publish posts.

Authors are the role who create content through posts on the website,

Then there is the role of Contributor. Contributors can create and edit their own posts; however, they do not have the authority to upload images. Contributors can write a post and save it but they can’t publish it. They have to get the Editor or Administrator to do that. They are able to insert images that have already been uploaded to the media library.

And the final role is the Subscriber. A Subscriber has the ability to read content published on the website, make comments and edit their profile.

So, to create a new WordPress user is very easy once you do it a few times and figure out permission levels or access you want each user to have.

Adding additional users to your WordPress blog is a fine example. There’s not just “add a user“, but you can assign them any of six different roles behind the scenes, ranging from making them another administrator to giving them the most …

It’s pretty easy to add people to your WordPress site, but did you know that you can assign a new user different levels of capability? You may look at these roles in the drop-down box and say, fine and dandy, but what do they …

The steps below and the video above will teach you how to insert and format images in your WordPress websites.

In your WordPress Dashboard, on the left column go to Posts or Pages menu, click Add new.

By default, the WordPress editor looks very plain. It is just a white box with some small icons on top of it.

First, move your mouse cursor and click on the location inside the editor space, where you want the image to be put.

Then, move your mouse cursor to the top of the WordPress editor, you will see the words Upload/Insert.

Click on the small rectangle icon just next to it on the right side. This is the Add an image icon link.

A new pop-up window will be opened. This window has Add media files from your computer on it.

Click on the Browse… button

Find the image file you want to insert into the editor space.

Click Upload.

Then the image thumbnail will shown.

You may leave the Title field empty if you want to.

Click on the None under the Link URL.

Select the Alignment and Size you want.

Finally, click on the Insert into Post or Insert into Page.

The pop-up window will close automatically.

You will see that your uploaded image is displayed in the editor area.

If you want to move it to another paragraph or line, you can move your mouse cursor on top of the image, click the left mouse button and hold it. Drag the image to the location you want.

That’s pretty much it. It is very easy for you to insert an image into WordPress.

Posting articles, pictures or videos on your WordPress blog is a fairly easy process but there are a few things that you have to know and do in order to get your posts published on your site. The video above will show you how to get started posting to your blog.

Below you’ll find step by step instructions to help you.

You first need to log in to your site. You will then be taken to your dashboard.

On the left hand side of the screen under “Dashboard” you have your complete “Menu” for your site. Look for “Posts”. Click on that and the “Posts” menu will expand. Under “Posts” you will now see a few choices. Click on “Add New”. This will bring up a screen where you’ll now be able to make your post.

Under “Add New Post” there is a blank box with “Enter title here”. Click inside this box and type the title for your post.

After you have made your title click on the larger blank box below it. This is where you’ll be typing your article post, adding pictures or video. At the top of that box there are a number of icons. Those icons will allow you to create articles just like any other type of word processing program does like make text bold or italicized, add bullet points or change the allignment of the text. As well, you can add links and check your spelling with the spell checker.

Start typing and create your masterpiece or whatever you want to write about.

Once you are finished you can click on the “Preview” button on the right hand side of the screen. This will open up a screen that will show what your post will look like. If you are happy with how your post looks then go back to your posting page and click “Publish”.

That’s it. There are other things that you can and should do for posting and we will cover those in the next videos.

Here are some links of other info about making WordPress posts…

Default [http://yourdomain.com/?p=123]
Day and name [http://yourdomain.com/2009/02/15/sample-post/]
Month and name [http://yourdomain.com/2009/02/sample-post/]
Numeric [http://yourdomain.com/archives/123]

The above options have to be avoided at all costs. You MUST have your permalinks set so that the name of your post (and hopefully the keywords you’re trying to target) appear inside your URL.

To do this here is a good permalink structure to use. Select CUSTOM and enter:

/%postname%/

And then click SAVE.

Again it ensures that your keywords are going to appear in the URL rather than an arbitrary NUMBER for the name of your post.

The video above will show you how to do this. Also, the links below will give you some more background on why and how to edit your permalinks.

This means that, for as long as the blog is live, the link will always point to that content and can be referenced both externally and internally, without fear that the content will change. Permalinks can then be used when …

Below are step-by-step instructions on how to install WordPress with cPanel

2. In the Fantastico navigation menu click WordPress

3. Select New Installation

You can host as many as you want via an addon domain if you’ve signed up for an account which allows this with your web host. Addon domains let you host different sites on your account with a unique and separate domain name and they share the same space. Subdomains let you host a separate domain in a folder on you main domain.

For example if your primary site is www.yourdomain.com, you could make www.yourotherdomain.com as an addon domain or www.other.yourdomain.com as a subdomain. Whereas both www.yourdomain.com and www.yourotherdomain.com would be totally separate Web sites and visitors wouldn’t know they were in the same account or owned by the same person, if you had a subdomain of www.other.yourdomain.com they would know that it was owned by the same person that owned www.yourdomain.com. It all has to do with what you want to do with your sites and what they are about.

Most decent hosting packages allow this. HostGator, Bluehost and Canadian Web Hosting are good hosts that provide cPanel.

Here are some other articles that will help you learn more about this subject…

Although WordPress is an “open source” community, meaning it is derived from and driven by volunteers, they have an active forum and many helpful links to assist you with building and maintaining your own blog.

WordPress is current with today’s web standards and looks much cleaner and professional than some of its competitors. You can change the template over to one that is in the WordPress arsenal.

However, if you blog on freehosts like WordPress.com just be aware your content and your blog is in the hands of others who will decide for the world whether or not your blog should be seen by others.

When starting to blog it is a fine place to start but have as your goal to have your own blog on your own domain and hosting accounts.

I woke up Sunday morning to find that my main computer was off. At first I thought it was just in sleep mode. It does that after a short time. Saves energy that way I’m told. Usually, I can just move the mouse or hit one of the keys and it will wake up.

No, not this time. Damn. No power at all. I tried different electrical outlets with no success. Nothing. Damn, this is going to be a crappy day!

This is my newest computer. The one that would make Tim Allen proud. You know, the one with all the power…Quad core processor, 8 GB of RAM, a skookum video card and all the other bells and whistles to be able to work with video, Skype and a bunch of my other newer software.

I had just started a new series on my blog and it was being being created to have text and videos. Videos that were created on my now dead computer. Okay, not entirely created on that computer but, mostly. All the final edits and putting it all together. The parts that matter.

This is what I was going to spend my Sunday morning doing. Didn’t happen though. Change of plan.

As it was Sunday morning (of course) I had to wait to call my tech repair guy, James. I wasn’t worried about the data for the long term as I know that can be recovered in most cases. How do I know that? Well, I used to work for a data recovery software company. So, that part was not a concern for me. However, what concerned me and had me swearing a bit (okay a lot) was that I couldn’t access my data – files, videos, emails or Skype right then. I still can’t.

I was able to get over to my tech repair guys place late Sunday and have him look at the computer. We thought it was the power supply. It wasn’t. That would have been too easy.

No he found that the mother board had died. No major explanation. It just died. It fell under the category of “shit happens.”

Turns out it will cost more to repair it than to buy a new computer. Great, either way it is $500 – $700 that I wasn’t planning on spending for another year. That was going to be to replace my older computer. No, I’ll be spending that money on the new computer to get a newer computer. Shit happens.

It wouldn’t have been so much of an issue if I had just backed up my files on a regular basis with an external hard drive. It’s not like I don’t have one to do this. No it is just that I never expected the new computer to give me any troubles so I didn’t bother. Oops! I could have been working with most of my files / data on my old computer by just unplugging the external hard drive from the new computer and plugging into the old computer. I wouldn’t be able to work on the videos quite as nicely as on the new one but I could have accessed all my other files. And, I need to access them.

So, I wait. I wait for the few days or week (or, heaven for bid – more) to get a new computer so that I can put the dead computer’s hard drive in it and power it up.

If you’ve been procastinating or lazy like me I highly recommend that you spend a little time to back up all of your files. If you have a large enough external hard drive then back up everything including programs.

This may never happen to you but then again, it might. Be smart and back up your computer.
